Planting a tree in their memory

5 min read

A tree or shrub in a meaningful place grows over time and offers a steady point to return to.

Choose a species that suits the soil and season. An apple tree, lime, or heather can carry meaning without long explanation.

Ask permission from the council, a nature site, or a private garden before planting.

On the day or later

Some families plant right after the service with a spade ready. A later day with close relatives may feel calmer.

Add a small stone or marker with name and year if the place allows.

Returning

You do not have to visit every year. It helps if someone knows where the tree is and who tends it.
